Steel has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any building material. Unlike steel, other materials can expand, warp, and twist resulting in sagging floors, settlement cracks, or floor squeaks. This would result in costly repairs that would have to be done after the house has already been build. Steel is resistant to cracking, creeping, rotting, shrinking, swelling, warping, or nail popping, and it is unaffected by temperature and humidity changes.

Steel-framed structures offer excellent protection against lightning storms. Steel wont burn or add fuel to fire caused by sparks and lightning because it is non-combustible. Steel framing even protects against rust. Because of its resistance to fire and termites, homes constructed of steel may be eligible for lower homeowner insurance rates.
